When you are out enjoying the beautiful nature trail that starts on the shores of the San Joaquin River, take a moment to think about the remarkable couple for whom the trail is named: Bennie and Joyce Gatto.

Since the 1950s, the Gattos have dedicated their lives to the service of the community of Lathrop. The trail is named in their honor as a “thank you” to two people, whose own families were born in Lathrop, who have been an inspiration for generations of people in Lathrop for their devotion and dedication to art and culture, city government, athletic boosters, and the spirit of local volunteerism that makes Lathrop a wonderful place to live and work.

The first trail sign, now installed, has a special monogram created for Bennie and Joyce. That monogram will appear on all of the signs and markers throughout the trail system as it expands over the community in the years to come.
